About the Shanklins
Bob and Sandra Shanklin have devoted over a decade of
their lives to their quest: that of photographing every standing
lighthouse in the United States, originally just the continental US, but
then they were gifted with being able to also include the lighthouses of
Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. They did this all on their own, without
funding, until they were nearly finished with their quest and then they
would go back home and work until they had enough money to go back out and
take more photos.
The Shanklin’s work (and fabulous photographs) and stories of their travels are compiled on their website and here, and published in their books: Bob & Sandras’ List of all Existing US Lighthouses, The Lighthouses of the Hawaiian Islands and The Lighthouses of Florida and in 2003, their newest book, The Lighthouses of Alaska will be presented to the world.
