Seasoned Director, Victor Legarreta, a showman for the past seventeen years, a seven year performer at the original Old Schoolhouse Theater, and three-year Artistic Director at the Off Broadway Palm Black Box, continues to bring his unique, stylish brand of musical comedy to the Islands. In the past two seasons we introduced close to thirty new professional actors to our audiences in twelve brand new shows. This season expect more new faces with five original Schoolhouse revues, two nights with world-renowned pianist Jon Weber, and the comedy that took Sanibel Island by storm, Run for Your Wife. "I have been a professional actor for the past 18 years and a director for over a decade, and this season has to be one of the most exciting I have ever had. In the past three seasons, we have introduced over 40 new professional actors to our audiences in 20 incredible productions. This year we've brought you more new faces with four original SCHOOLHOUSE revues, an evening with world-renowned entertainer and pianist John Weber, two award-winning musicals and two comedies including 'Caught in the Net' and the much-anticipated 'Funny Money' written by Ray Cooney. At least once in an actor's career you perform in a show that is nothing but fun! About 10 years ago I performed in the musical 'Lucky Stiff' and did just that. I loved everything about this musical. It is funny, heartfelt and is the best portrayal of modern musical theater. I hope you enjoy watching tonight as much as we love performing." Victor Legarreta |

Review:
As an Official HONORARY Plaid from 2004, I salute the Plaids forEVER!!!
I still have my little box of dental floss trimmed with a plaid ribbon
and my eternally framed certificate of Plaid-ness, I am set for life..
My life goals have been reached, I can croak a happy Plaid-ette.Having been privy to seeing Forever Plaid annually for the past several years, each time I'm amazed at what all has gone into each production. The choreography in sync, the harmonies .. AMAZING. Every show is down to the note.. down to the move.. perfect. Mike Baer continues to dazzle us with his piano finesse. I could watch him all night long.. wait! I have watched him and danced to his music many a night when he was with Catman Doodz.. the man is amazing. You continue to ROCK, my friend! You never realize that there are just five people, NO BREAKS ~ no intermission, and you are encompassed with talent, fine music and gorgeous manly eye candy. You'll love the Ed Sullivan 'zip-thru' .. about 30 acts-of-the-day jammed behind the song "Lady of Spain" played by Keith Varney on the accordion. We laughed ourselves into cramped stomach muscles as our minds flashed back to when we were kids and watched the show live.. what the kids miss today. But wait a minute.. these kids performing it weren't even THOUGHT OF when Ed Sullivan was on.. I hope they appreciate the history they're gifting to us in this wonderful musical show. And I've never seen so many songs that spoons came in so handy as percussion instruments! LOL I need to add Props to Bobby Logue for being out front as Sales and Greeter! I love this guy! He is also teaching Tap Dance on the Island, so we all need to get out there and get our Shirley Temple ON! Drop me a note and I'll tell you how to contact him to sign up! (and Bobby, don't forget to tell Loren Strickland -music director at Broadway Palm Theatre that I need him to help me build my OWN Carmen Miranda hat!) My love to all.. Victor, you've done it again! The sequel to "Run for Your Wife." 18 years later, modern technology is about to lead John Smith's two families into a head-on collision. His son Gavin (with his mum Barbara) and daughter Vicki (with her mum Mary) are discussing having met in an Internet chat room. They are amazed that they both have fathers named John Leonard Smith who are London taxi drivers, and since romance has blossomed, they are determined to meet in person. And chaos ensues...

If you saw "Run for your Wife" last season and you remember it as being very VERY physical and wearing you out just watching it, guess what, this sequel is on STEROIDS!!! Matthew Edwards (above) as "Stanley" is as frenetic and hilarious as my favorite guy last year, Reid Kirchhoff. Matthew's comic timing, facial expressions, actions are a joy to watch. The script that everyone had t memorize is lengthy, convoluted, extensive and the best and fastest paced you'll ever enjoy. Dave Yodowitz is adorable as Stanley's dad. Barbara and Mary, John's wives, are fabulous to watch! The audience is on pins and needles hoping they don't run into each other. The kids (having met on the internet and wanting to meet and date) are totally thwarted throughout the whole play.. Gavin is John's son, Vicki is John's daughter.. John and Stanley run themselves ragged trying to keep them apart. There's a LOT of slap-stick, high energy running about, door slamming and tension is maintained throughout the whole production. I can't tell you the ending, but it's a totally out of the blue surprise (write to me and I'll REVEAL!!) So starts 2008 with another incredible, wonderful, laugh-packed evening of entertainment.. to all of you who missed it, don't miss any of the up-coming adventures that is The Schoolhouse Theater. Also check out the new glittery Sanibel snow globes available at the Schoolhouse.. they're gorgeous and go to a wonderful cause, continuing the encouragement of Children in the Arts. (Like Will Smith said on "Independence Day" .."I gotta get me one a these!" And so do you!) Hugs, all.. and I'll be back to let you know about what's up with the next show! I love these guys! ~ Bekki ~*~*~
Tuxedo Junction A Manhattan Transfer-type 40's musical The music you will be hearing tonight is some of the best the 30s and 40s had to offer. Music has always been there for us regardless of what was going on in the world. Music can bring hope, thoughts of home, reminders of our love for one another, and an escape from day to day life. I hope tonight you will enjoy this tribute to music at it's best...Victor Legarreta.

The Cast includes: Adam Cooley.. in some of the tunes, check out his facial expressions.. he's amazing! Mary-Elizabeth Milton has a fabulous soprano voice that is powerful, her inflection, perfect! Kate Phillips is a joy to watch.. elegant, great voice and RED HAIR!! Love it! Reid Robinson returns after "Caught in the Net".. great moves and you are SO versatile! Ya'll are amazing!! Now, let's talk about the musical trio behind the singers/dancers.. I've got continue to give my props to Mike Baer. As usual, to watch him play is fun, to listen to what he's playing is a total joy. He laid down some tracks for me to sing to for an album for my dad. I was so intent on listening to his piano work that most of the time I forgot to sing. A totally amazing talent and all around nice guy.. good goin, Mikey. The other two parts of the musical trio include amazing drummer: Trimble MuCullough.. check out the sounds this guy comes up with. And he gets some great sounds from what looks like a bike wheel.. pretty cool! And Sam Revanna.. no idea where this kid learned stand up bass, but he's got it going on! And 98.9999% of these tunes in the show were popular decades before he was even born. Great job, Sam.. you're fabulous now and will be totally KILLER as you get older.. and together ya'll are a formidable group of musicians. Incredible work! Absolutely great production all! and more props go to Victor Legaretta for set design, Lighting & Sound design by Jeff Chandler, Bobby Logue has his hand in multiple things: Choreography (love it, Bobby!) and he's also Stage Manager and in charge of Props. Lighting, Sound and Scenic Design by Todd Sherman. Costumes by Amy Jo Kunkleman, and the entire run of the show is sponsored by Bailey's General Store. Again, you'll love this production!! Get there soon! Bekki ~*~*~
Lucky Stiff A musical farce in the best sense of the word! The complicated and hysterically funny plot involves one dead body, a nerdy English shoe salesman, six million bucks in diamonds, and a lot of dogs!

(Did I ever tell you that I took tap lessons from about the ages 6-8 and quit when they made me wear an itchy pink tutu with a horrific sort of gold glittery upside down tear-drop on the front of whatever top was attached.. I think that outfit stopped me cold, being the baby artist that I grew up to be, the colors were SO not me, and I was totally offended by them.. thus ending my incredible tap career and ability to answer the Schoolhouse calls for people to audition for their future shows? All because of the unfortunate mating of ick gold on scratchy pink.. wiping tear.. and big sigh.. ah well, cheering from the audience has now become my way of life.. dirty gig, but SOMEONE had to take up the baton! LOL ) But, I digress.. Talk about FUNNY.. you've GOT to see this one. If you've missed the others, or even if you have been a faithful Schoolhouse Theater attendee, this is ONE show you dare not miss! The Troupe is amazing.. awesome voices, as usual, and never a ho-hum singer in any production that Victor every puts together. Here's who you will see: Wally Calderon as VINNY.. adorable in a maid's dress with fishnets; Miguel Cintron who is one of the ever-changing part of the ensemble and much welcomed in this production; Marcus Keihl who plays LUIGI (so James Bond-looking and fabulous in his many disguises ~ and is that really all YOUR chest hair?? LOL); Victor Legarreta who plays Dead Body of Tony Hendon.. (and as stated before, a fine dead body he is too!), Madison Mitchell who is also a necessary part of the Ensemble, also an ever-changing roll; my buddy Mindy Montavon playing the darling Annabel with the voice that Disney would die to have as one of his heroines.. great job, palamia!; Scott Moreau is Harry, our lead character .. I love the way you move your hips!! LOL Then comes our glorious, sensuous red-headed chanteuse (you and Samantha MUST hold 'how to move so well' classes.. I'm all over it and your first pupil!); Reid Robinson is back again in a myriad of characters.. each one as fun as the one before!; and Samantha Rotella who plays RITA.. the one who made Tony dead.. amazing, girl.. I could watch you in this role for days! This show had people in stitches from the start to the Bravos! And from the audience came a bouquet for Mindy .. all I can say is that you've GOT to see this one! And behind the scenes: Let's give the Production Credits where they are most certainly due: Book and Music by Lynn Ahrens & Stephen Flaherty; Directed by: Victor Legaretta; Choreography by our own Bobby Logue; Lighting/Sound/and Scenic Design by: Todd Sherman; Stage Manager & Props: Bobby Logue; Asst. Stage Manager: Kristen Donovan; Costume Design by Amy Jo Kunkelman (loved your work this production, sweet!); and Sponsored by: Lily & Co. and Bank of the Islands. Thanks and see you there next time! Hugs to all and thanks for a wonderful evening! Bekki ~*~*~
Funny Money SPONSORS: Jean is preparing a birthday dinner for her mild-mannered accountant husband. When he arrives he is not himself and suggests they immigrate to Barcelona. The reason is that Henry has found a briefcase containing £735,000 (over $1 million.) Other guests at the dinner are forced into a game of cat and mouse when two police inspectors call.
This show is fast-paced and too incredible to believe at first, but like all the Cooney works, falls perfectly into place at the end. And an aside: Getting this info from a very reliable source, our handsome lead memorized his 'book' (script) in two days. Sheesh.. I find it hard to memorize my way home from work most of the time. Then again, I'm OLD!!! LOL Let's find out who the cast is for this hilarious production: Henry Perkins ~ Robbie Gay; Jean Perkins ~ Katherine Proctor; Bill (the cabby) ~ Miguel Cintron; Porterhouse ~ Dave Yudowitz; Betty Johnson ~ Mindy Montavon; Vic Johnson ~ Victor Legarreta; Slater ~ Marcus Kiehl; Mr. Big ~ Victor Roldan. Every actor had 1,000,000 lines to memorize. Each one more intricate than the one before. The convolutions created from one moment to the next is reminiscent of Abbot and Costello's "Who's on First".. I kept looking around the theater, watching all the people enjoying the evening.. many wiping their eyes from laughing so hard. Every character is portrayed vividly and the whole evening is an amazing close to a wonderful day in paradise. This is another fabulous season for Victor and the various troupes.. Bravo and another 'Well Done!' from me! love and hugs to all! ~ Bekki ~*~*~
