LOCAL ACTOR AND ARTIST, KEN JOHNSON, BRINGS HIS UNIQUE ART SHOW, “DEBRIS RETROUVE”, TO BROADWAY PALM’S ART GALLERY

The Broadway Palm Art Gallery presents the works of local actor-artist, Ken Johnson, now through October 1st.  Ken Johnson may be a familiar name having starred in numerous Broadway Palm productions.  Ken has transformed the Broadway Palm Art Gallery into an eclectic art show that has caught the attention of many theatergoers over the last two weeks.  The art show is titled, “Debris Retrouve”, which is French for trash reinvented.  It features over 100 paintings and sculptures made out of a variety of items such as mannequins, furniture, toys, and pots and pans just to name a few.  A large portion of the artwork displayed came from scribbles people drew which he made into a picture or piece of art.

Ken Johnson was born in Puerto Rico, but has lived in Atlanta and California.  He moved to Florida four years ago and is a resident of Fort Myers.  It was at that time that he began working on “Debris Retrouve”.  It took him four years to complete the collection of distinctive art and he was finally able to bring it all together for the first time.  Ken said, “I wanted a chance to put all this together at one time because it represents a period of my life.  Once I got the opportunity I finally relaxed and decided that I wanted this to come across as an automobile accident with people rubbernecking at what they see.”  He has done just that.

Surprisingly, Ken Johnson, has had no formal art training.  In fourth grade he did a drawing of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory for school, which inspired his love of art.  He has been involved in the arts since becoming an actor at eight years old in community theatre with his father.

This is a one of a kind art show you don’t want to miss!  Ken Johnson’s “Debris Retrouve” will be showcased now through October 1, 2005.  The Broadway Palm Art Gallery is inside Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre at 1380 Colonial Boulevard in Fort Myers.  The art show is open daily and there is no charge.  If you have any questions please call (239) 278-4422 or visit our website at www.BroadwayPalm.com.

There are so many fabulous pieces that I could only include some of his work.
